While some come to Las Vegas to play, others come to win. WELD driver Matt Hagan demonstrated his dedication to winning with a strong qualifying run positioning him in third place. His hot streak continued throughout knock-out eliminations, including a head-to-head battle with the legendary drag racer John Force. Hagan walked away with another Wally in hand, marking his third Funny Car class victory of the season on WELD Delta-1 wheels
A pair of aces, Hagan’s team owner and fellow WELD driver Tony Stewart took home his first national win in the Mobil-1 Top Alcohol Dragster only four races into his NHRA drag racing career.
“This is so special to share the winner’s circle with my boss, Tony Stewart, and his first NHRA national win too,” said Hagan after his third 2023 victory and Stewart’s first Top Alcohol Dragster win. “After he won here, he came to my car and said, ‘Now it’s your turn to win!’ Wow, I wasn’t feeling any pressure until then. But our crew, led by Dickie Venables, has been so good this year that I just needed to be good on the line. And that car ran strong to the finish.”
Matching the performance in Funny Car was WELD driver Antron Brown bringing home a win in Top Fuel Class with the Matco Tools Dragster.
“Every round was a tough matchup from the start”, says Antron, “but my team powered through and got it done! We’re looking forward to getting back to work in Charlotte in two weeks!”
